This hands on class will focus on the building and application of the grip overhead frames.Members will learn how to build and implement the industry standard 6x6, 8x8,12x12, and 20x20 overheads. Attendees will also receive instruction on the proper knots to use and techniques on how to safely tie down the frames. Discussions will occur throughout the class in reference to the practical application of different overheads (rags) and why DP’s choose to use them.

THE ART OF SET TEACHING Learn the ins and outs of the art and requirements of set teaching. Your responsibilities start before your call time dictates and can end after the wrap of your minor(s). Come with a familiarity of the SAG and GDOL rules and how they apply to your work day. Class time: 2 hours Please bring: notebook and pen SAG AND DOL RULES FOR SET TEACHING
It is critical to know and understand the rules that are a major component of the Set Teacher’s job and responsibilities. This American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and AED course was the first in the nation to combine hands-on AED instruction with CPR training. The course teaches the basic techniques of adult, child, and infant CPR and use of an AED.
Students also learn to use barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking in the responsive victim. The course teaches how to recognize the signs of three major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, and choking.

This course is open to all Local 479 Medics
This 5-hour class is designed to provide members, who are working as medics, with a broad foundation of knowledge, tips, and techniques to enhance their job performance and ability to be hired. Attendees will review general set etiquette, as well as, specific responsibilities and behavior expected of medics, including a discussion of the unique conditions that on production and off production medics will be expected to know.
The business of the medic will be explored from negotiating with UPMs to scheduling additional safety personnel.
Focus will be given to the variety of paperwork that medics will encounter on a normal basis, including:Call Sheet, One Liners Injury Reports & Claims, and Workers Comp.
A portion of the class will be spent exploring the typical responsibilities and conventional production practices for on/off-set medics, from billing of invoices to the type of medical aid that can be legally rendered based on your license, Medical Direction and Personal Liability Insurance.

Heartsaver CPR with Beth Cuvar

This American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and AED course was the first in the nation to combine hands-on AED instruction with CPR training. The course teaches the basic techniques of adult, child, and infant CPR and use of an AED.
Students also learn to use barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking in the responsive victim. The course teaches how to recognize the signs of three major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, and choking.

Spotlight Drafting is a two-session course, that teaches motion picture professionals how to use Vectorworks Spotlight to create Light Plots for film and television
Vectorworks 103 High Intermediate Concepts This class makes the jump to drafting completely in 3D. We re-create a set from the Major Motion Picture Dr. Sleep where we recreate the exact materials that are necessary to be presented at the highest level of film and television production.
Vectorworks 104 Advanced Concepts This class focuses on 3D modeling and complex Rendering. We craft a 3D lighting device and use this exercise to familiarize the students with the tools and processes to create full and complete 3D models and renderings.
Suggested Prerequisite: Completion of the 101/102 module or commensurate drafting experience.
What is this course about? Vectorworks Spotlight training Class (2 Day Class) teaches students to use the CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting) program Vectorworks Spotlight to make light plots and 3D Renderings of sets and lighting instruments & environments.

Weapons on set!- Crew safety-Member rights and responsibilities
This is not a class to teach how to safely handle weapons, but guidelines for all departments when there are weapons on set.
The class will cover firearms, edged weapons (knives, swords), and special effects guns.
Instruction will include the various types/manufacturers of blank ammunition, and demonstration of the different loads. We will discuss various types of dummy ammunition and how to determine if a round is inert.
We will discuss the few industry accidents, how they happened and how it could have been avoided. Will discuss four related deaths and weapons used.
Accidents happen. We are all responsible for our own safety. And that begins with knowledge of and respect for weapons.
