Technology Showcase at Base Camp ATL

23

Last Saturday Local 479 participated in a technology showcase at Base Camp ATL, a movie and television production facility near the intersection of Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Thornton Road. The event was co-hosted by PRG/Paskal and provided our members with hands-on experience with a variety of new and cutting edge filmmaking technologies.

Registration opened at 7:30am and attendees were provided with breakfast. Around 9am Brian Edwards, President of PRG, welcomed attendees and introduced the representatives from the companies participating in the day’s events, including Local 479’s Business Agent Mike Akins. Following those introductions Brian was joined by Senior PRG Account Executive Dan Hammond for a keynote address centered around new technology in our industry.

The day’s technology demonstrations included:

  • PRG’s revolutionary OverDrive™ Digital Lighting Solution, which uses LED panels to provide digital fill light on talent or vehicles paired with a high-resolution LED screen for the background, allowing filmmakers the ability to create lighting and motion effects in-camera while shooting.
  • A demonstration of Holo-Gauze, a metallic gauze that allows for real-time projection of 3D hologram effects at a large scale.
  • The Air Wall system, an inflatable exterior green screen solution for large scale shoots.

Our thanks to Base Camp ATL and PRG/Paskal for providing our members with an opportunity to get a look at these technologies, and to all the vendors participating in this event with our local.
