Local 479 Awarded Jurisdiction for Majority of Alabama
At our most recent General Membership Meeting, we were pleased to announce to our membership that Local 479 has been awarded the geographical jurisdiction of the state of Alabama (minus Mobile and its vicinity) by the IA. Georgia’s Film Industry Continues To Demonstrate Rapid Growth
In 2004 the membership of Local 479 met in the North Room of historic Manuel’s Tavern to vote on partnering with local production organizations in a bid to challenge the State of Georgia to become a serious competitor in the television and motion picture industry. 2015 Coat Drive
Did you upgrade your cold weather gear this year? Winter is coming, and with those cold temperatures comes a chance for you to clean out your closet and do a good deed: Local 479 is collecting well cared for coats to donate to the needy. We’ve set up a collection box in the office and our field representatives can also come by set to pick up donations. Check your email for their contact numbers, and share the warmth with others! This year’s coat drive will be running from now until December 17th – spread the word, share this post!

Local Hosts Tailgating Party At Braves Stadium
On a beautiful September evening a large number of Local 479 members met at the Atlanta Braves stadium for a catered in-the-park tailgating session prior to the game. Kickball Tournament A Fun Time For All
After an initial postponement due to a rain out, Local 479’s Young Workers Committee successfully launched this rollicking kickball tourney to benefit The Global Village Project School, raising $18,425 on behalf of the Atlanta-based charity, which helps refugee girls with interrupted schooling to gain access to the education necessary to pursue their dreams.

Braves Night 2015!
Local 479 would like to invite all members in good standing, along with their families, to the IATSE Local 479 Braves Night! Come join us in cheering on the Atlanta Braves as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies, Saturday September 19, 2015, at 7:10PM. The union will host a “tailgate” gathering complete with food in the Right Field Patio area (inside the stadium) at 5:00PM – a full 2 hours before the game. Every member in good standing can bring their spouse/significant other, children & grandchildren. DETAILS on how to sign up have been sent out via email, and note that you *must* RSVP BY August 1st to qualify for this sponsored outing.

Welcome to your new headquarters building! Here’s a quick photographic orientation tour of the new space.

Front Entrance – the front entrance to our new offices will provide convenient access to the administrative offices as well as to the new meeting hall. Improvements to this area are planned for later in the year, including paving and landscaping.

Local 479’s Historic Move to Larger Facility

The new IATSE Local 479 Atlanta Headquarters has moved to a larger building on the adjacent property.
On June 19th, 2015, IATSE Local 479’s unprecedented decade of growth was highlighted by a transition to a larger member-owned facility, directly adjacent to the offices the local has occupied for the past two years.
Younger members may be interested to learn that their local’s office has moved many times since it was first chartered on October 1, 1986. The local’s first real office space was located along Piedmont Avenue, just south of Cheshire Bridge Road.
