First Man Oscar Nom for Sound Mixer Mary Ellis

Sound Mixer Mary Ellis Receives Oscar Nomination for First Man

Local 479 is pleased to announce that Sound Mixer Mary H. Ellis has been nominated for an Academy Award as a member of the Sound Department on the feature film “First Man“.  This is Mary’s second Oscar nomination in two years. She was previously nominated as part of the sound team on Baby Driver for the 2018 Academy Awards as well as for a 2018 BAFTA.

The full sound team nominated for First Man include:

  • Jon Taylor – re-recording mixer
  • Frank A. Montaño – re-recording mixer
  • Ai-Ling Lee – re-recording Mixer / sound designer / supervising sound editor
  • Mary H. Ellis – production sound mixer

Mary’s on-set Local 479 crew included:

  • James Peterson, Boom Operator
  • Nikki Dengel, Utility

 

The Competition

The sound team from First Man will be competing against the teams who mixed sound for Black Panther (also shot in Georgia), Bohemian Rhapsody, Roma, and A Star is Born.

Awards Broadcast

The 91st Annual Academy Awards will air on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 8pm EST on ABC.
