IATSE Pride Float Benefits Charity

This past October marked IATSE’s first entry in the 49th Atlanta Pride Parade. Local 479 member Nate Dahlkemper spearheaded the effort, coordinating with members from Local 479 along with several other Atlanta-based IATSE locals over the course of a month to create a float commemorating classic “Old Hollywood”, complete with red carpet and a winding staircase.

Parade watchers were excited to see actress Amiyah Scott from Fox network’s ‘Star’ as the featured guest on this year’s float.

Our members were invited to participate as volunteers and to donate to the Rainbow House Coalition, a charity selected by Local 479’s Pride Committee.
More than $5,000 was raised by this effort!
“I would like to send a huge THANK YOU on behalf of myself and the board of Rainbow House Coalition to IATSE Local 479. This was a true testament that when a few people come together with a common cause they can accomplish great things!”

Members from our local set up a booth to represent Local 479 to attendees of Atlanta Pride 2019.

Committee Chair Dahlkemper praised Local 479’s Executive Board for going “above and beyond” and marveled at how the community “really came together” to support this first foray into the Pride parade.

Already planning for next year, Nate said “This year we were the only labor union present at Pride – next year I’d like to have even more IATSE locals involved in our parade group!”
