Coronavirus Updates for Members

We have created a post on the Member Dashboard containing all the latest information about COVID-19, including an updated list of show statuses, the latest news from IATSE International, news from the National Benefits Fund, statements from studios regarding COVID-19, and current Public Health notifications about testing and treatment for COVID-19.

Office Closed to Walk-in Traffic

The Local 479 offices are closed to all walk-in traffic.  The office staff are working remotely and remain available by phone and email to assist members during normal business hours at (404) 361-5676.

We want to reassure our membership that the local will continue to be available to answer your questions and assist you in all of the same ways.  Please do not travel to the hall for assistance; instead contact the office by phone or email and we will be glad to help you.

During this time, we ask that anyone wishing to submit an application to join the local do so by emailing their completed, signed application documents to office@iatse479.org.  Upon receipt of your application submission, you will be contacted by phone to collect application fees and answer questions.

All training classes scheduled to take place at the Local 479 hall between 3/16/2020 – 3/27/2020 will be postponed to a future date.  If you are signed up for a class that was originally scheduled during this time, you will be contacted by the local via email with more information.

Andi Sowers Nominated for Visual Effects Award

Special Effects technician Andi Sowers has been nominated with the VFX team from season 3 of the hit thriller Stranger Things, from Netflix.

IATSE Local 479 is pleased to announce that local member Andi Sowers, has been nominated as part of the VFX team for the 18th annual VES Awards For Outstanding Visual Effects for Photoreal Episode for her work on the 3rd season of the Atlanta-lensed television series Stranger Things.

The 18th Annual VES Awards will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the Beverly Hilton – if you’d like to watch, the ceremonies will be livestreamed on Facebook (click for link).

Business Agent’s End of Year Report 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 479,

Another busy year for Georgia’s film industry has come to a close.

Production Remains Active

The past twelve months have seen more than 50 features, 57 episodic productions, and 10 pilots shot in our jurisdiction, providing more than 15,000 jobs to our members.  Local 479 members were hired to work on every union-made production in town, from the ultra-low budget Blast Beat and Alieu the Dreamer to high profile features like Bad Boys for Life, Jumanji 2, and Richard Jewell.  This year our members earned more than $300,000,000 in wages.


Michael Rayle Nominated for CAS Award

Production Sound Mixer Michael Rayle has been nominated for his work on Season 3 of Stranger Things on Netflix.

IATSE Local 479 is pleased to announce that one of our members, Michael Rayle, has been nominated for the 56th CAS Awards For Outstanding Achievement In Sound Mixing For 2019 for his work on the 3rd season of the Atlanta-lensed television series Stranger Things.

The 56th Annual CAS Awards will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel in the Wilshire Grand Ballroom.

IATSE Pride Float Benefits Charity

IATSE Local 479 was represented on-air during a live broadcast by PeachtreeTV.

This past October marked IATSE’s first entry in the 49th Atlanta Pride Parade. Local 479 member Nate Dahlkemper spearheaded the effort, coordinating with members from Local 479 along with several other Atlanta-based IATSE locals over the course of a month to create a float commemorating classic “Old Hollywood”, complete with red carpet and a winding staircase.

Last month Local 479’s Young Workers Committee hosted the 5th Annual Charity Kickball Tournament in the city of Atlanta, raising more than $32,000 for The W-Underdogs.

“Including last month’s tournament the Young Workers have raised more than $120,000 for local charities over the past 5 years!”

With more than 3 months of planning, 48 sponsors, 16 raffle baskets, 300 dedicated players, and one very, very special charity, we can all be extremely proud of everyone who gathered to help make our annual kickball tournament possible and to give back to our community!


The 2019 Charity Kickball Tournament

It’s time for some KICKBALL!!!   This weekend our Young Workers Committee will kick off the 5th Annual Charity Kickball Tournament at Noon on Sunday, September 22nd at the Atlanta Public Schools Coan Building (1550 Hosea Williams Drive NE).

Even if you’re not on one of the 20 teams you can have a great time watching the epic gameplay on the field! As in years past we’re once again offering some incredible prize packages that will be raffled off over the course of the day.

The Mekhail Brothers will provide a delicious BBQ lunch complete with veggie options, and many of our sponsors will be present so stop by and thank them for making a difference in our community! Best of all, representatives from this year’s charity, W-Underdogs will have some dogs up for adoption at the event!

Help us make this fun tradition come to life again this weekend!!!
