About Our 2019 Charity: W-Underdogs
Since 2015 IATSE Local 479’s Young Workers Committee have devoted themselves toward making their annual kickball tournament a fun and meaningful event for players and sponsors, raising thousands of dollars for our selected charities along the way.
This year our selected charity is W-Underdogs – a non-profit dedicated to address the challenges that disadvantaged at-risk youth face and provide them with the skills and sense of accomplishment to help them overcome the challenges in their lives.
W-Underogs concentrates on Teaching, Teamwork, and Growth.
Teaching kids how to manage, care and train dogs and cats and vet them as needed. Children in the program learn personal discipline and responsibility as they rehabilitate the animals. They learn how to care for animals and, in turn, how to care for themselves and have compassion for others. W-Underdogs’ main goal is to be able to provide a more comprehensive “tool bank” for the kids to learn the skills outlined above, and to carefully and selectively expand the program so more kids can participate.
The youth who participate in the W-Underdogs program learn Teamwork and how to work as a group with shared goals. They learn how to manage the expectations of others; lessons that will help them grow and make them employable as groomers, trainers, and vet assistants. Kids in the program participate in full hands-on rehabilitation of neglected and abused animals, turning them into loving, manageable pets, ready for loving homes.
In turn, the animals help the W-Underdogs kids in acquiring skills that they are not currently learning within their home environments. W-Underdogs seek to provide their kids with a vision that extends well beyond their immediate environment, while teaching the skills to help them cope with present, real world challenges more successfully. As the animals progress, the W-Underdogs participate in adoption events. Saving the animals saves the kids, endowing them to Grow with self satisfaction and self-esteem.

We love this location because all our playing fields are in sight of each other, making it even easier for teams to move between fields while getting a good look at their competition (with a bit of trash talk thrown in for good measure). Our sponsor tents will once again be in the center of the action, along with the adoption station from W-Underdogs – look for their tents and stop by to say “Hi and Thanks!”

Seriously Great Prizes
The Young Workers report that they are still receiving incredible contributions for this year’s raffle baskets! For just a few dollars you can win hundreds of dollars worth of goods and services – don’t miss out on helping out the W-Underdogs while winning some great stuff!
This we’ll have from coupons and artwork to movie swag and Atlanta United swag – this year we have a signed Atlanta United jersey from Ezequiel Omar Barco and an Atlanta United soccer ball that’s been signed by Leandro González Pírez!!

The more tickets you buy, the better your odds of winning – best of all, the proceeds go entirely to the kids and critters at W-Underdogs!
